Particularly with the pitching, the Yankees were able to overcome the loss and subsequent ineffectiveness of Bruney, Marte (who returned a monster in the playoffs) and, although they never really replaced Wang, they cobbled together enough good starts from Gaudin, Mitre, and the like to stay competitive, win many games, and prevent any significant drop-off from the rotation's big guns.
